Let Us Pray

Almighty God, Jesus the Divine Word Parish is a Community of faith committed to bring Jesus to the people, principally through the Eucharist. We, as followers of Jesus, pledge: to bring people to fellowship in our parish family; to build Christ-like maturity within our parishioners; to guide each member to ministry of the family, the Church and the world; and to evangelize by word and example. All for the greater glory of God. Amen.

PARISH VISION STATEMENT

"...if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old order has passed away; now all is new! All this has been done by God, who has reconciled us to himself through Christ and has given us the ministry of reconciliation. I mean that God, in Christ, was reconciling the world to himself, not counting men's transgressions against them, and that he has entrusted the message of reconcilitation to us. This makes us ambassadors for Christ, God as it were appealing through us. We implore you, in Christ's name: be reconciled to God!"

Sometime in the autumn of 57 A.D., Saint Paul penned these uncommon words to the growing Christian community residing at Corinth, in Greece, and through them they call to us to live out their meaning in the unique commmunion of life that is the believing Church. Our community of faith, Jesus the Divine Word, with confident trust in God's grace, accepts the work and mission of reconciliation which Christ Jesus, won for all through his life, death and resurrection. As the Word made flesh, Jesus became the true and perfect sacrifice which "fulfills all others:" linking us as 'saved' trhrough divine revelation and communion to the life we have with God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Being Catholic in the wider Church, our redemption is centered in the Eucharist, "...the source and summit of the Christian life." Through the forgiving love of the Cross of Christ crucified-risen, we gladly favor and embrace the words of Holy Scripture delivered to the Corinthians as the founding ideal for the Catholic Community of Huntingtown, Maryland. Empowered by this vision and joined to our labors as a canonical parish in communion with the Archbishop of Washington, we dedicate ourselves to promote and sustain commitment to the sacred gifts expressed in: RECONCILIATION, COMMUNITY, and SERVICE.
