Please remember that Good News Preschool follows Calvert County Schools for
weather closings; however, if the Public schools are delayed, we will be closed.

 

Polar Bears, Penguins, Groundhogs, Careers, Leap Year, PJs and Love, Love, Love!!! February is an exciting time at Good News Preschool. Although the mild winter continues outside the classroom, we will explore iceburgs and polar animals and even make our own snow! The children will experiment with "blubber" to keep their hands warm in icy cold water, and learn that Polar Bears and Penguins really are not friends!

Our Valentine and Pajama Party is the big event of the month. Each child is invited to wear pajamas to school and bring a pillow, blanket or sleeping bag and a cuddly toy if they choose. We will exchange valentines and munch on pancakes, popcorn and pretzels! Please don't send a snack this day!

During our unit on careers, we will open the Good News Grocery. We will practice listening and one to one correspondence as well as sorting and matching as we role play many career positions such as mail carrier, mechanic, doctor, veterinarian, waiter, and chef.

Some songs you may hear this month include: "No, No, No that cannot be!", "Do You Know the Workers Name?", Bam, Bam, Slap Slap", and "Five Valentines".

The Counting Box activity will continue to keep us counting and recognizing our numbers! The fours will focus heavily on dexterity and name writing as well as sequencing and patterning. The threes will practice cutting and categorizing.

Literacy activities will stem from Tacky the Penguin and Polar Bear. Tacky will begin visiting the children of the four year old class this month. We can't wait to hear what fun adventures await him!!

 


The Good News Preschool is a ministry of Jesus the Divine Word Parish in Huntingtown, Maryland.  It is a non-profit organization.  The program is accredited by the Maryland State Department of Education.  Our preschool is open to all of God’s little children, with first preference being given to the parishioners of Jesus the Divine Word Parish.  The program is then open to members of the other Catholic parishes in the area, and then the general public.

                    It is the mission of Good News Preschool to promote the social, emotional, cognitive, motor and spiritual development of three and four year old children within a fun-filled, loving, Catholic atmosphere.  Our learning environment is one in which the uniqueness of each child is emphasized, while offering developmentally appropriate activities in the instructional areas of Math, Science, Reading Readiness, Social Studies, and Religion.
