Baptism is the first of the three Sacraments of Initiation whereby the person baptized is welcomed into the faith community of the Church.
Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as children of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word. (CCC 1213)
Parents requesting baptism are to be registered in the parish and participating in Sunday Mass for a minimum of three months. Parents requesting baptism for children younger than the age of 7 are asked to participate in a formation program designed to help them prepare to celebrate the sacrament with their child. Parents are to call the parish office to schedule this with the pastor or e-mail Father John.
Parents requesting baptism for a child older than the age of 7 are asked to please contact the Office of Faith Formation to request information on the Rite of Christian Initiation for Children (RCIC).
Godparents are examples of the Catholic faith that the child can look up to throughout their lives. Catholic Godparents must be confirmed practicing Catholics.
